"...with all humility and gentleness...'" Ephesians 4:2
Happy Friday!
Last week, we honed in on the word “humility” in Ephesians 4:2. This word is tied into countless verses in Scripture, and I hope you had the opportunity to dig deeper into other instances where it shows up.
Remember, a key takeaway is to rely on God's power to accomplish or manifest these attributes in our lives. We don't just muster up and harness our own strength to be "more humble." It's a continuous understanding that humility, like many other attributes, is supernatural in origin and requires a cooperative effort with God in the driver's seat.
For this week, take a look at the second attribute—gentleness. As I mentioned before, our world has distorted, emasculated, and twisted this term into something synonymous with weakness, frailty, and feebleness.
This is not how God defines the term.
Gentleness is a powerful attribute the Holy Spirit works within our lives to showcase GRACE. We know God's grace is foundational in our salvation, and a gentle spirit brings grace to the forefront.
Here are three takeaways for this week.
1) Read Galatians 5:22-23 and consider how gentleness ties into the other “fruit” mentioned. Are you cooperating with God's Spirit to grow these?
2) Find three additional verses that use the term gentle or gentleness. What is the context, and how is Jesus the prime example and definition of gentleness?
3) In what ways does gentleness show up in your daily life? How does this tie into grace in your own life? Pray and ask God to develop gentleness in a way that recognizes Him as doing the work.
