Humility and Gentleness - Part 1

"...with all humility and gentleness..."

Ephesians 4:2(a)

Happy Friday!

A couple posts ago, we touched on the powerful plea of Ephesians 4:1, where we are exhorted to "walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called." As we consider what this looks like in our daily lives, we move into Verse 2 and begin with two heavy-hitting terms that show up repeatedly in Scripture—humility and gentleness.

Both are essential to the Christian walk. True humility and gentleness can only be demonstrated when we walk closely with the Lord, and these attributes are supernatural in origin.

Think about this for a moment.

When we display humility and gentleness that honors Jesus and walk in a manner worthy of our calling as Christians, we cooperate and engage with the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit of the Living God. The God who gave His life for us, saved us, lives in us, and has sealed us for all Eternity!

Such powerful truth.

Conversely, when we simply try to muster up humility and gentleness in our own strength and for our own motives, we will ultimately fail. Adding to this is how our culture routinely twists and emasculates the definition and application of humility and gentleness.

We will plan to look further next week, but here are three takeaways/prayers related to humility (next week gentleness):

1) Ask God to work in you to display genuine humility in each situation. Ask Him to reveal any motives or agendas that don't align with this.

2) Take time to search and look up three (3) additional verses related to humility. The Bible has so much to say about this! How does Jesus display this?

3) Cooperative with the Holy Spirit by committing each day to Him. Ask Him to give you the strength and power to walk in a manner worthy of Jesus.
